Texas GOP Faces Major Election Setback

If there’s one thing the Texas GOP learned from the state races yesterday, it’s probably this: they’re fucked.

Much was made of a runoff race for a vacant seat in District 9, located in the Fort Worth area. Democrat Taylor Rehmet won the race hands-down despite his opponent, Republican Lynn Wamgsganss’ campaign having the support of President Trump and outspending Rehmet 20:1. 1, 2

I make especially careful note of this race because my U.S. Representative’s district reaches into Fort Worth, and she responds only to her GOP base. And she’s an asshole. I even flew out to visit her office in Washington D.C. because she couldn’t be bothered to respond to any of my requests for support on a pretty simple veterans issue. But I digress. My point is that Tarrant County has voted Republican for 56 years, with the singular exception of Biden carrying the suburbs in 2020.

Tomorrow, February 2, is the last day to register to vote in the March 3 elections in Texas. Early voting begins February 17th and ends on the 27th. Consider checking votetexas.gov to confirm your voting status. 3
